Episode 100: Best Guest Manifestation Tips From 100 Plus Episodes

Hello my lovelies, Welcome to a very exciting episode of Alchemy for Authors – Episode 100!

In truth, we’re a little over 100 episodes, as I have published a few bonus and minisode episodes too – but still, I think this is something worth celebrating.

And it comes right on the back of my birthday too, which was on the 17th. A birthday I was looking forward to, but kinda fell apart into a bit of a disappointing heap if I’m honest – haha!

But such is life.

In a way though, I think this makes today’s episode even more special and timely!

As we’ve all experienced, life happens, and what we envision for ourselves doesn’t always match up to our reality. In these moments we always have the choice – to wallow in our disappointments, or manifest for ourselves something even better.

So for today’s episode, I decided to share with you some of my favourite guest moments over the lifespan of Alchemy for Authors, that talk specifically about manifestation – manifestation being the act of creating for ourselves the life we most desire. In creating this episode, there was unfortunately a LOT I had to leave on the cutting floor, simply for the time aspect. And you’ll notice, I didn’t include any snippets from my solo episodes where I’ve talked in depth about manifestation and the likes.

Rereading the transcripts of these episodes, was such a fantastic experience – reconnecting with the wonderful conversations I’ve had on this show, and the amazing guests I’ve had a privilege to talk to. I really have to pinch myself. When I started this podcast, I don’t think I ever really envisioned making it to this many episodes. I certainly couldn’t imagine chatting with the calibre of guests I’ve had on. As a socially awkward introvert, who cringed at hearing her voice out loud, I feel like I’ve grown so much as a person. And you, my listener, were a big part of that. Whether you’ve been on this journey with me, for only a short time, or followed me since the beginning, my gratitude for you is immense. Without you, this show would have very little reason to exist. So thank you. Genuinely. I mean it.

On that note, and before we get on with the show, I just want to do a quick shout out to Corina, who so generously supported the show through https://buymeacoffee.com/jobuer recently and left this note for me – which honestly brightened my day during a bit of a rough time in my non-author life:

Hi Jo, I recently discovered your podcast when I finished a manifestation course in January – it was like the Universe needed me to know you had a podcast on this subject and so much more. And then to find out you’re also a Kiwi was the icing on the cake. I’ve listened to about 3-4 of your shows over the last week while driving or at the gym and gained so much from the jewels of wisdom shared during your interviews with others. I love Becca Syme, and I just finished listening to her latest talk with you today, as well as the interview you held with JD Baker (how amazing is that one?!). Thanks for putting these podcasts out there to help creatives. With warm regards, Corina

Thank you so much, Corina!

Hopefully, this episode inspires you all on your author journey, or encourages you to revisit previous episodes, like it did me.

So when you’re ready, grab a drink, find a comfy chair, sit back and enjoy the show.

Hello my lovelies, welcome to episode 100: Best Guest Manifestation Tips from 100 Plus Episodes.

Today’s episode is about revisiting some soundbites from some of the amazing guests I have had on the show talking about manifestation. I do encourage you to go back and listen to these episodes in full and you’ll find links to these episodes in the show notes. But of course, this is only a small sample of the wonderful authors I’ve had the privilege to chat with over the last few years.

To begin with, let’s dive into what manifestation really is. Here is my wonderful friend, author and Millionaire Mindset coach, Carissa Andrews, from Episode 72, defining manifestation:

Put me on the spot. I see how you are. Well, for me, manifestation is very simple. It’s literally just turning your thoughts into things and getting whatever your heart desires, because I’ve come to the conclusion that whatever our desires are, it’s really divine guidance kind of pointing us in the right direction of where it is we want to go. So when we’re feeling that discordant energy, I’m looking at you, Jo, when we’re feeling a discordant energy, there’s typically a reason behind it, because our desires are pointing us in a different direction and we haven’t quite decided that magical superpower that we all have, what direction we want to go and how, how full force we’re going to go into it. But for me, manifestation is just, it’s changed my world in so many ways since I kind of, I guess fell back into it, like it’s been something that I’ve studied for a long time. But I, like many people, most people, we kind of have our ebbs and flows with things that we learn, things that we apply or life gets in the way, weird stuff comes in and, you know, divorces, or kids get born or, who knows, all the things. Sometimes life just gets in the way and then you have to kind of circle back around and refresh your memory. And so that’s kind of what manifestation is for me.

On Episode 94, bestselling author Renee Rose, defined manifestation as this:

Well, I do think everything comes down to energy. And so if energy is like our finest, the finest level, the most granular level of everything we create, looking at the energy first can actually fast track your way into creating something. And so you want to be energetically aligned with the thing you’re going for, not the thing you’re pushing against. So a lot of times you spend a lot of focus on what you don’t like in your life and then you get more of that. And so the trick of manifesting is to focus on the things that you do want to show up, trust that they’re going to come, act as if they’re coming, embody the energy of they’ve already come. And then, as within, so without. Whatever you’re embodying in your physical body will show up on the outside.

On Episode 16 Carissa Andrews had this to add about the power of the subconscious mind:

The universe works with the Law of Attraction. You have these laws out there. And when you’re starting to think thoughts, you’re creating a vibration. That vibration becomes a belief structure and your belief structure does a bigger vibration because now that’s your predominant thought system. That’s what you’re constantly operating under. So your subconscious mind is always at play here and it works way more powerfully than your conscious mind. So if you can be training your mind to be working more towards what’s the next best thought.

And probably, one of my favourite perspectives on manifestation was from author and certified hypnotherapist Tammy Tyree on Episode 56:

And it’s really more about people understanding that they’re more powerful than they think they are. And that, you know, the kind of the day-to-day, and I think this ties in a lot with my work in hypnotherapy, is that we tend to get caught up in all the minutiae and we forget that we are completely capable of manifesting anything it is that we desire and, and anything that we dream. And if we’re dreaming it, then it’s possible. It’s already in that vortex.

What I love about manifestation is that it is accessible to all of us. Like many of my guests who have shared their thoughts on manifestation, I subscribe to the belief that it is something we are doing ALL the time, whether consciously or not. I like to believe that we wouldn’t be given a dream without also being given the means to make it a reality.

A big component of manifestation is around aligning our energy to what we do want. This means being conscious of our thoughts and feelings. From my perspective, feelings are a lot more powerful than our thoughts. We can do all the affirmations we like, but if we don’t feel it in our bones, it’s really a waste of time. The things we desire in life, and in our author career, at the crux of it, are all things we imagine will make us feel good. So a big key, to manifestation then, is to get into that feel good frame of mind from the beginning. This aligns our energy with what we want to attract more of. It’s why I talk so much about following your joy or doing things that bring you joy. Here’s what some of my guests had to say about it.

In Episode 13, author and writing coach, Monica Hay, had this to say about feeling good:

And feeling good is really what manifestation is about. It’s about putting yourself in the feel-good state and also matching the vibration of what you’re wanting to manifest. Sometimes when I write, I just tell myself I am a bestselling author. I literally act like I am at that moment and think, what do my readers want right now? I put myself in that space, in that head space.

Monica also doesn’t shy away from the reality that sometimes life is not all unicorns and rainbows:

I celebrated my first rejection. I was like, yes, I put myself out there. Yeah, I did it. Yes. We’ve got to do that. We’ve got to celebrate every one of those milestones for good or bad, because it’s all part of the journey. There’s nobody out there who has been living the life that they love and created a wonderful life for themselves without being rejected somewhere along the line. Right? Without some failure. Success doesn’t exist without failure. Failure is like literally just part of the process. And we don’t talk about that a lot, I think, on social media. And so it’s very easy to see people who are successful. And we think God, I want that. How do I get that? And it was through a lot of failure.

She also had this to say on why feeling good is not a one and done thing:

Honestly, it’s a daily thing. Every single day you have to work at it because I might be a Law of Attraction coach, but I struggle every day even to put myself in that space because of the constant messaging that I get everywhere. The media that we consume, the people we’re around. Like all those things affect us. And my biggest recommendation is to consume media that fills you up. When you go on Instagram, you unfollow people who affect you in negative ways. You unfollow people that if you see their content, it brings you down. It’s almost like you have to be very careful about what you consume and what you allow into your life.

Author and centenarian Babette Hughes in Episode 82 echoed these sentiments, but also consoled us that even if our path has been tough, we can use that to our advantage.

Lucky people that haven’t had to deal with bad things are not lucky because when they’re hit with life, they have no tools, they have no way to deal with it. They haven’t had the opportunity to learn. So they are more overwhelmed than someone who has already gotten the way to live with problems, learn from problems.

You know, again, it’s losing happiness that gives you the energy and the insight and the importance of happiness. That you have to, at least I’m thinking that your question reminds me that I did not have happiness, but because of what things you and I are talking about, I learned. Sometimes I think you learn from bad things more than good things in life.

So when you see all your experiences as being helpful on the path to manifestation that is when big shifts happen.

Carissa Andrews in Episode 16 had this to say about how to get into alignment for manifestation:

That is the most basic question, but the most powerful question, but the most ick question. The best way to get into alignment when it comes to those things is honestly, is to be constantly striving to find your joy. So rather than focusing on, why am I not there? Why is it not here yet? Why can’t I do this thing? You know, I’ve been working on this. I know my job. My writing is good, but it’s not here yet. It’s not here yet. You know, why can’t I earn more? Why aren’t my ads converting? Any of that kind of mindset is actually keeping you stuck. It’s keeping resistance to what you really want, which is obviously money flowing effortlessly to you. It’s keeping it back. And so when you focus on better feeling thoughts, better feeling vibes, telling a better story about what your author career looks like and is going to evolve and you’re going to manifest it because  the universe works with the Law of Attraction. You have these laws out there. And when you’re starting to think thoughts, you’re creating a vibration. That vibration becomes a belief structure and your belief structure does a bigger vibration because now that’s your predominant thought system. That’s what you’re constantly operating under.

Time and time again in my interviews, my guests have spoken about surrounding themselves with people that build them up. I have an entire episode dedicated to the importance of having cheerleaders in your life.

In Episode 41, happiness evangelist and author, Julie Leonard had this to say on the subject:

I really feel that if that’s something that you’re passionate about, it’s something that you really want to do, then give yourself the permission to do it. Doesn’t matter what other people think, doesn’t matter what other people say to you. Make sure you surround yourself with people who go, yeah, that’s great. There’s gonna be lots of people who go, you’re writing a book, writers don’t make any money, blah, blah, blah. If it’s something that you want to do and it brings you joy, make the space, own that and make the space to do it. Really do that and surround yourself by people who will cheer you on with that. Who will really be like, that sounds great. That’s brilliant. You can do it. Get your cheerleaders around you, ask for help. I did it because you know I got the help to do it. I didn’t spend years trying to figure it all out. You can really make it much easier for yourself. You can get lots of support and lots of help, but surround yourself with the people who will cheer you on. And choose to do it, really prioritise it for yourself.

So what do we do when we do come up against negativity – whether our own or other peoples? Here are some tips:

In Episode 16 Carissa Andrews had this to say:

We all have these things that are going to bring your vibration down into an emotional scale. That’s a little bit lower, but if we reach for things that are higher and even if it’s just a little bit better. So if you’re in this discouragement phase of your author career where you’re feeling like nothing is working, I feel so stuck. I don’t know how to break through this. And if you just go, okay, well, I might not know how to do this now, but I know that I can find the answers. I know that the answers are out there and it’s figure-out-able, yay, Marie Forleo. I’m so glad she coined that phrase. And I love it because it is. Everything is figure-out-able. Everything will come to you at the right moment. If you stop beating yourself up over it and allow it to come in. And so it really comes down to allowing everything to come to you, your inspirational thoughts, the next inspired action to help you with your marketing, the next level of like, what should your next series be? All of this stuff will come to you. If you just stop, you know, being the monkey on your back and putting yourself down and start envisioning everything’s working out in my favour. Everything I need is always coming to me. I can see evidence of it all around me. I can see how this awesome career has continued to expand for me. And I’m loving how I’m doing everything. And so the more you tell the story of what you want to become, the more that becomes your vibration, and it has to come through.

In Episode 86 PR specialist Lyda McLallen shared advice on how to deal with negative people:

If somebody gives you a negative comment, they’re either not your target audience or they’re jealous. And that’s like the very sad case around authors is that we’ve always, I always warn our authors, if you get a bad review, they’re not your target audience, or there’s somebody that you know that’s jealous, unfortunately. And majority of, we don’t usually get negative reviews if ever, but when we do, it’s usually somebody that’s in their writing circle or somebody that’s jealous. And that’s the unfortunate case on that. And my recommendation of, like, you can’t change that person or anything like that, but you can change your mindset around it. And instead of feeling jaded and angry and upset over it, give them compassion and show them that that’s not how it’s done. And supporting other authors, the more you support other people, the more you’re going to attract that back into your life. That person that wrote you that negative review, they’re going to attract the same negativity, and they’re just, they’re not your target audience.

In Episode 94 Renee Rose talked about her book Relax to Riches and her thoughts on dealing with negative people:

So this book is full of energetic tips. So then the next one is Consume Cannibals. So this is sort of like a how to work with difficult people, difficult energies.

So, basically, it’s reversing the flow. So when someone’s coming at you in an aggressive way, or even like they’re sucking you, instead of putting your barriers up… So when it says consume cannibals, you’re actually going to pull their energy in and that, by reversing that flow. Then they’re not sapping you anymore. And they’re also like your block, because if you have barriers up, that can be kind of painful in your energetic system. And it also is blocking you from things showing up from the universe because now you’ve got walls up. So Consuming Cannibals is like you’re pulling their energy and pulling energy through the universe through you. And then it gets that flow back going, that interpersonal flow, and it can really change things. So that’s sort of like a lot of tools for working with difficult people, either people who are like projecting stuff at you, sucking you dry, like all of those things.

But I noticed, like I’d written this chapter and then I noticed, you know, recently with the U.S. election, there’s a lot of fire out there, you know. There’s the day after the election, there was like one side celebrating and the other side grieving. And I just realised I could Consume Cannibals, like I could pull in the celebration. I’m going to just say the “other side”, now you know where I am, on the other side, and have it for myself. And have it for my ideals, have it for my country, have it for, you know. So instead of putting up my barrier of trying to fight, you know, getting my sword out, I’m Consuming the Cannibal. So I’m just like pulling in all their celebration, all their glee, all their vitriol, all their negativity, and I’m using it as fuel for my rocket ship.

Soul Health Mentor and author Nadia Krauss puts the accountability for change back on us in Episode 34:

So there’s three things I wanna really bring home. So the first thing is when you complain, you make yourself a victim. ‘Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept it, all else is madness.’ So the first thing is, if you’re knowing that’s that challenge, that’s when people sometimes come to me with that challenge. And they are coming to me because they’ve made the decision, I can’t accept this. This has gotta change. And then they want the answers. So that’s the first thing, to really get out of that drama of being a victim and come into your power. And then there’s another beautiful quote, and I hope I might have to paraphrase, I’m not sure if I can say it correctly. But it’s, and I also don’t know if I can say his name right. It’s Alexander van Higher, I think. And he says, ‘When a flower doesn’t bloom, you don’t fix the flower, you fix the environment the flower grows in.’ Which is if you’re in a toxic environment where you feel like a victim, change the environment. And sometimes it starts with you inside. And then the third favourite quote, is actually really bringing it home for me. ‘When a personality comes to fully serve the energy of its soul, that is authentic empowerment.’ So that is from Gary Zukav, The Seat of the Soul. So these are like, do these things and the next step will reveal itself.

The truth is, we cannot change other people, we can only change ourselves, our reactions, our environments, and our thoughts, for example.

Anyone who has spent any time delving into manifestation would have come up against the concepts of resistance and blocks. Those thought patterns that often become our beliefs, that hold us back from creating and manifesting the things we desire. Really it all comes down to mindset, and boy, did my guests have a lot to say about that!

Here’s Carissa’s perspective on the issue in Episode 16:

So for example, if you are one person who, like let’s say for you having a hundred books a month sold is amazing. It’s the most incredible thing that you would be thrilled out of your head, happy, if you sold a hundred books, but for someone else a hundred books would mean they’re like failing at life. You know what I mean? So mindset is so different. It just depends on like, what does success mean for you? What will happiness mean for you? It will increase, everything will increase if that’s what you desire, if that’s what you are setting into motion. And that’s what you’re looking for. But if you’re looking for, oh, it’s not happening, or, oh, I’m failing or everything is poor. You know? I know a woman who was selling something like 6,000 books a month and she thought she was failing if a new release sold less than that. And I was just like, wow. Okay. So I feel like I’m doing pretty dang good, if I sell a thousand for a new release right now.

It’s always a part of your mindset about, you know, whether you think you can or think you can’t, I think it was Henry Ford that said that. So if you’re going to tell yourself that this is going to be hard, it’s going to be hard. If you can tell yourself that it’s going to be easy, it’s going to be easy. And the universe is always going to give you exactly the vibration that you’re putting out there. So if you’re doing that whole, this is going to be so hard. The universe says, oh, you want hard? Here’s hard. Or if you want it to be so easy that you’ll just be like, where did this even come from? The universe will be like easy. Yes, here you go. So the universe always says yes.

In Episode 94 Renee Rose talks about the importance of facing our shadow:

Because we have our conscious thoughts and then we have our subconscious beliefs and thoughts, right? And so, you can work all day with the affirmation of like, you know, “I believe I’m going to make a million dollars at my author business”. But if the subconscious thought is you’re not good enough, then that’s in your energetic field. And so probably the feeling, if we did go by feelings, would be ugh. Like you think of the thing, but you know, the feeling might be a constriction in your chest or a tightness in your throat or, you know. So I think the feelings can be a really good indicator of the truth of the matter of what you actually believe. But I also think we can get super excited, feel happy about it, and there’s still, the thing is we’re fighting ourselves a lot of times, right? There’s still something in the back of your head that’s like, that’s not for you, you’re not deserving, you’re not good enough, and so it’s addressing those deepest shadowy parts of ourself. And let me just say, first of all, that manifestation works perfectly even if you don’t. Like, I proved that at 25, I didn’t know anything, manifested house, job, you know, all of that stuff. So it’s not necessary to look at the shadow, but when you do, then you can just fast track.

In Episode 13 Monica Hay talked about how therapy helped her with this:

And I look back and I think that feeling my limiting belief, getting therapy and putting my mental health first and my wellness first really helps me get in a better space for manifestation, because unless you heal what’s hurting, you’re going to have a lot of limiting beliefs that keep you from manifesting. If you say to the universe, like, I am a bestselling author, but deep down, you have this really trauma facing situation in the past that really hurt and you haven’t dealt with it, you won’t be able to manifest what you want. You have to heal yourself.

Tammy Tyree goes more in depth with this in Episode 56, and how self-hypnosis can help release some of these blocks:

Self-hypnosis is close to a meditation, but like I said, it’s got the intent, right? So you’re first wanting to sort of get out of your own mind and stop the chatter, and relax and breathe just like in meditation. But then, with intention, you’re going to think about maybe the words that you continually say, for example. Or this negative talk or belief or something that you’re struggling with. Right? The best way to go about it, I find, is searching through your own body and finding out what it is and where in your own body this sits. And for a lot of people that maybe is in their sacral chakra area, that’s the emotional centre of your body. It’s your core. And then just relaxing more and breathing, it’s just to kind of thinking, okay, well if this feeling or these words that I keep telling myself is lodged in this area in my body, if there was maybe a silver cord running from that, what does that attach to? And usually, in a second, a millisecond, a memory will come to mind and it’s gonna be something that, you know, potentially, maybe it was past life, maybe it was your childhood, maybe it was your birth. Who knows? We never know. And then when that happens, you’re like, oh, okay. That thing that, that thing somebody said to me once, that thing that my mother said to me or whatever, I’ve grown up believing this story is now affecting me in my life. So then you can consciously with intention in your self-hypnosis session, rewrite that story. And as authors, that should be easy to do. Right? So if your story was I had, for instance, a lot of clients who wanted weight release hypnosis. And a lot of times it’d be, they’d think of, you know, the time that their mom told them that they need to sit at the table and eat everything off their plate and blah, blah, blah. And it’s so damaging. It’s honestly, it’s just ridiculous. Or something’s withheld. Love is withheld. You know, the ice cream that you love, the hugs from mom, whatever. Whatever that was painful for you. Something was withheld and you can literally sit there, and remembering that your subconscious mind doesn’t know right and wrong, yes and no, truth or a lie. It just knows what it feels. So as you’re there and you’re rewriting that story to be something very positive, your subconscious mind registers that back in that emotional centre of your body, wherever that pain is, that you had felt and corrects it.

And part of the process is not just rewriting the story, but also looking at the source. Maybe it’s your mom, right? So walk in her shoes. How did she grow up? Was she told the same thing and now she’s telling you? Like whatever it might be. So you find empathy as well and forgiveness for the person who wronged you in the first place. It’s miraculous.

Then what happens? And I always ask my clients to give me a scale like on one to 10, 10 being the worst you’ve ever felt, one being the best, or vice versa, or whatever. Where are you at? Well, they’ll go from, you know, 10 the worst I’ve ever felt to I’m a one or a two. Because their emotional or their subconscious mind has reregistered this memory as a new memory in the emotional centre. Even though we know neither one is the truth, consciously, we know this. That’s not the part that matters. It’s the sub subconscious. And once that’s done, then you’ve changed the story and you can go about, you know, just letting it go. Not worrying about it anymore, not thinking about it anymore. Totally changes. It’s really good.

Carissa adds to this in Episode 72:

I think the worthiness part, for sure. And getting to the point of being able to identify when those thoughts come up, because that’s where the magic happens, right? When you’re able to actually catch yourself thinking the thoughts and repeating the thoughts and go, where did that come from? Like, what is this? And then when you can have that, like, question, now all of a sudden you’re in charge and you can shift it. You can either go do a hypnosis or you can, you know, choose actively to pick a better feeling thought or better feeling, you know, belief because beliefs are just thoughts you continue to think. And so if you have a limiting belief, you can rewire it by doing the hypnosis, which is a lot faster than having to consciously try to do it. But consciously picking it as well works, like when you can catch it consciously and go, that is not a belief I’m going to hold or adhere to anymore. I’m going to choose to believe this. And you keep doing that. You keep shifting over and over. Eventually your mind will accept that as the new belief. And that’s what our whole world consists of. Our perception is based off of the beliefs that we hold. So it’s super powerful when we realise that we are in charge of changing our beliefs.

Another way of uncovering our blocks is by exploring our Enneagram type. On Episode 58 I had the lovely Enneagram Consultant and author Claire Taylor on the show:

I think that is a great way to start to figure out and listen to the parts of yourself that are telling you what is and is not aligned. The Enneagram is a way to identify our core fear and core desire and start to see how that draws our attention towards certain things and away from other things. It helps us start to notice our blind spots. It helps us start to realise what we’re very susceptible to, right? What kind of promises we’re very susceptible to, so that when we start to recognise, oh, that’s one of those promises, we can pause and go, is there anything backing up that promise that this person’s giving me? That if I do X, I’ll get Y? Or am I just falling for this thing because I want it so badly?

So the Enneagram brings us self-awareness and self-knowledge about our own subconscious patterns of attention, our cognitive, behavioural, and emotional schemas, as they’re called. But these patterns that we’re doing as a default, and that’s really where we can get tripped up because that’s where, you know, if someone picks up on the fact that we really, really want this one feeling, we really, really want to feel valuable, or we really, really want to feel, you know, self-sufficient, they can pull us wherever they want.

In my opinion, one of the absolute best tools for helping us shift our energy to be more positively aligned for manifestation, is through the practice of gratitude. Gratitude can also be useful for reminding ourselves of what we have already achieved and the obstacles we have already overcome, to help us with dissolving some of those blocks and resistance that we face.

Author and Prince of Positivity, Spencer Jones, had this to say on Episode 24:

And then one of the biggest things that really helped me is focusing on my gratitude. So, what am I grateful for? What are the amazing things in my life that are just incredible? I have this daily practice that I share with everyone, so I can share it with you which I’m excited about, is to write down three gratitudes every morning. And then at the end of the day, think of two things that went awesome that day. It could be small things, right? It could be like, ah, the perfect sip of coffee, or, you know, it could be something big like I got a promotion. Great. It doesn’t matter. The gratitudes: it doesn’t matter the size. They could be small. They could be huge, but they’re still there.

In Episode 51, author and book industry expert, Mark Leslie Lefebvre, speaks about his first book, and how he keeps things in perspective, and is grateful for even the small things:

So 20 years have passed and this book is out there making new friends on its own. You know? Annoying the hell out of other people, maybe, uh, just like all my books do. Some of them these like, oh, that’s dumb, I don’t like it. And other people like, that’s my jam. And I just know that the more I put stuff out there, the more I continue, uh, I still, and I’m not, you know, I’m the physician who needs to heal thyself. I am constantly chasing things and, and getting excited and refreshing the dashboard. But I’m remembering that this is just one moment in time.

It’s almost like when you look at yourself in the grand scheme of the universe, oh my God, I’m in so much pain right now. This is the worst thing ever. And you realise the world goes on, the universe goes on, and this too shall pass. And so it’s almost like adapting that, you know, look up into the sky and see the stars and go, well, I guess it’s not that big a deal when I think about, you know. I just stubbed my toe. But look at this. Look at all this. And isn’t it awesome that we get to be part of this? Isn’t it awesome that even though I’m not a New York Times bestselling author, and I’m not selling a hundred copies of my book every day, but yesterday I sold one. And that means that someone out there, not my mom, but someone out there picked up my book.

Bestselling author Lee Savino uses gratitude as the first step for manifesting anything. This is what she had to say on the subject in Episode 77:

Yeah, absolutely, ‘cause I’ve been there. And I would say if you’re in a funk, ‘cause you can have those days when you’re a full-time author, like you’re like, why am I doing this? Like you’re stuck in the book and you’re like, ah, or the launch didn’t go well or whatever. But, first of all, it’s really a gift to have some income, like income is great. So I would start with gratitude. And in the first part of “Adventures With The Universe”, I do something called the Magic Spell. And I do my Magic Spell all the time because it really shifts my mood. So if I’m grouchy, I’m like, Oh, I gotta do a Magic Spell. Cause it starts with gratitude and then you’re listing out things you love. And then you, you kind of ask for some things. Anyway, I don’t need to go through the whole spell, but the starting with gratitude really, really shifts your mood. It takes me like a couple minutes of feeling grateful for something for like the fog to lift.

In Episode 82 centenarian Babette Hughes had this to say about gratitude:

Yeah, focus on the pleasures of which we have ample pleasures that are awaiting us, but it’s as if humans don’t choose those. They choose the worst. There’s some people that are talking about happiness and all of that. And one of the things they all say is to have gratitude. And have gratitude for your day when you wake up in the morning. There’s something to be grateful for. And it’s not just a pretty thing to do, it’s a thing that gives energy. And it’s that inspiration and confidence in your ability to write.

Something that not many people talk about, is the role of the body in manifestation. In Episode 33 author Sara Garofalo shared her perspective on how the body is instrumental in manifestation:

That’s something that nobody talks about, but it’s very important because I give this example. Think about you being overly drained by your physical health issues. A lot of people experience this. Oh my God. It could be body dysmorphia. It could be like weight gain. Oh my God, I’m not feeling comfortable. It could be literally my stomach hurts and I’m having gas, bloatedness, all of those things. If manifestation, as we know, as we just said, is a vibration, what do you think is happening when you think like, hey, I wanna be a vibrational match for the happy version of myself that is living a life of abundance with a happy family life, but I’m over here and my body is literally dragging me down every day and I can’t even run with my kids because I’m hurting. So that’s where the missing link is for people. It’s kind of like, if you wanna feel good, you gotta feel good in your body. That’s the foundations of a house, that’s the foundations of everything. You cannot build the house without foundations. So take care of your body first so that you feel good and then you raise that energy, for energy is vibration.

In Episode 55 Renee Rose shared her insights on this subject:

Yeah. Well, if you think about it, like our body is, um, like if we were trying to manifest money or abundance, our body will be the recipient of that, right? Because our being doesn’t really care. Like our being is in this body, on this physical earth right now. So it’s like for this body, yeah, that you would manifest anything physical. So, you know, if you wanted a nicer car, it’s for your body. If you wanted a nicer house, it’s for your body, you know. Like the nicer food is gonna be for your body. And even like a successful career is for this body in this lifetime, right? Your being, maybe your being wants a successful career, but it could try it in another lifetime. Or you know, like, who knows? So including your body in your ask and listening to your body, cuz your body actually knows, right? Like your body has wisdom beyond what your mental capacities know. I don’t know if it’s true, but they say your body can like predict the future up to five years. Like it’ll have this knowing, which might be like when you meet your life partner and your body just seems to know, right? Because it was already ahead of you.

In Episode 72, Tammy Tyree reminded us of all the resources available to us:

And I think that something that people don’t give enough credit to is how it’s not just you consciously, physically doing the work, you know? Doing the promoting, doing all the things, and writing book after book after book that will make you that success, that millionaire, that dollar figure, all parts of you need to be involved, right? We need the mind. We need the spirit. We need the body. We need to stay healthy. We need to, you know, get your exercise, get your meditation and do all the things, and understand too and appreciate that it’s not you consciously doing this work. There’s other things available to you. There’s other forces that are wanting to participate in everything that you do and create. And to understand that, appreciate that, allow that and then watch what happens. It’s phenomenal.

Something often forgotten about when people talk about implementing the Law of Attraction or manifestation, is the fact that you must also take action. Sitting there dreaming of your ideal author career is not enough. At some point you also need to actually write a book. Monica Hay said this best in Episode 13:

And so I just trust the universe. Law of Attraction doesn’t work unless you work too. Like, some people are like, oh, I just want to be an author. I’m going to imagine myself as an author. And I’m like, you have to write the book. You have to write the book. You can’t just be like, I’m going to do this and then just like sit back and watch TV all day. You have to actually do it. And you have to allow yourself to listen to the universe’s guidance every day when you’re asking the universe, oh, I want this, and I want this. Listen to those nudges from the universe of like, oh, this is the direction that you should take. Like, listen to your gut because that guy is telling you which direction you should go so that you can have your dreams.

Podcaster, creative entrepreneur and bestselling author, Joanna Penn, reiterates this idea in Episode 78:

I’m thrilled and I mean this, but this is a good point. I mean, you do talk about manifestation and mindset and things on this show, but you’ve also taken action and I think, you know, I also agree in this, in fact, you know, you’ve read ‘Career Change’. In there I do talk about, I had an affirmation, which was, “I am creative. I am an author.” And when I wrote that affirmation, you know, back in like 2006, I didn’t believe it. I couldn’t even say it out loud. I wrote it as an affirmation, but it wasn’t real, and I kind of whispered it to myself when I walked to my day job. And then I was like, “I am creative. I am an author.” And okay. So what does that mean? Then you have to take action. So it’s like, okay, what does a creative person, what does an author do? And so then you have to start acting that way. And, you know, I’ve had a look at some of your gothic suspense and your paranormal cozy, and you’ve got this podcast, and that’s the thing. You have to take that step into action. Part of the Law of Attraction is the action, as you know.

Joanna used affirmations as a tool to help her take action. This is what she had to say on that:

Just on that. So people, why we do that is if you say “I am an author”, it creates this cognitive dissonance where you’re like, but I’m not, but now I have to be because I’m saying I am, so now I should be. So I need to finish my book and I need to get it out there. And obviously you’re not going out in public saying “I’m an author” when you don’t have a book, but it becomes the affirmation you write down.

In Episode 33, Sara Garofalo, reminded us to listen to our intuition and take inspired action, not just action:

I mean, I missed one step that I think it’s key for authors to understand here is, you’ve gotta follow the energies. Like I am not in the kitchen when I’m stressed out with my kids, like screaming. Like, no way. I set time aside to be in that energy and it’s kind of a ritual process. So I would say if you’re not feeling the energy or the inspiration, shift it. Dance, move, go for a hike, do something to get yourself back in the flow and then sit down when you fully focus. You’re gonna waste time sitting on the computer if the words are not coming through. And there is gonna be that moment when you feel the energy that you’re gonna write 20 pages all at once. So you’ve gotta be in tune with that. So I would say that’s one of my main tips.

Throughout the show, my wonderful guests have also given a plethora of tips and tools to help the manifesting process. Here are some of them.

Monica Hay in Episode 13 shared this:

So my first recommendation is to start with something small because what I did when I first learned was I was like, okay, I’m just going to ask for a cup of coffee. I’m going to go out to a coffee shop and I’m going to somehow get a free cup of coffee. And the next morning my friend messaged me and said, do you want to go get some coffee? I have a Starbucks gift card. And I was like, oh, my God. And I hadn’t seen this friend in, like, years. Okay. It was, like, totally out of the blue. So I knew then that it worked. And my biggest recommendation is to start with things like that. Just start with something small, like ask for a feather, ask for a certain colour of rock that you can see these very small pieces. You can just ask for that and just have a deep belief that you’ll see it.

Julie Leonard in Episode 41 gave this super practical tip called No Zero Days – essential when you believe the Law of Attraction only works when you take action!

If I can give that as a tip, is you’re gonna have days where like nothing comes to mind or you’re thinking I can’t be bothered. Or you’re feeling like your inner critic is really loud and the No Zero Days chapter is all about basically, just do one thing no matter how small. So even if you write one word or one line, you know, or one number on the page, whatever it is, it’s something, cuz something is more than nothing. Even one thing is more than nothing, and even if you did one word every day for a week, you’d have seven words, which is better than zero and an empty page. And so I love No Zero Days. No matter what you do, even if you’re just doing your appendix or you’re, you know, you’re doing the copyright page or you’re doing the table of contents or whatever. As long as you’re doing something. And the thing is, you will not continue to do one word or one sentence. It builds momentum. It gives you encouragement as a snowball effect, and it’ll kick you off. If you’re getting stuck, just write something. It doesn’t even have to make sense. Just write one word, one line. Do something because something is better than nothing.

Probably one of the most common-sense tips, but one often neglected, was offered on a Bonus Episode by Carissa Andrews:

If you wanted to have, let’s say, burgers for dinner, right. If you want burgers, you have to make that decision first. And if you go to your fridge and you don’t have, you know, burger buns or something, you gotta decide, okay, am I gonna use sandwich bread for my burger bun, or am I going to eat it without a bun? Or do I go to the store and get a bun? Or do I have something completely different? And if you want that millionaire author destiny, it’s up to you to make that decision first deliberately and then to start creating the circumstances that surround you, that help you lock in the vibe of that already being yours, that it already being the thing that’s coming to you. And as you get more used to that idea, that notion, and you create those support systems that help you to get there, it has no choice but to show up. It’s like, whether or not you have that burger for dinner, you decide what you want and then you decide is it worth holding the vibe knowing that it’s yours. So you can have it whatever way that you want, whatever shape it gets to look like. Or you could just go get the burger buns and then it’s yours. Or you could change it completely and decide it’s not for you, but that’s always up to you and your deliberate decision.

One of my absolute favourite tips came from Renee Rose on Episode 55:

If someone asks me for author advice, this is the one I always give because, you know, love is a really powerful energy. And so when you’re in the space of love for your book, I think our fear is that like we think we’re supposed to be super critical and judgemental of our book, and then, that’s gonna make it better. But in fact, when you’re in the space of love, it opens things up and then you may see things that need to be improved. Like let’s say you’re still working on your book, not it’s done, but like you’re still working on your book. Work in progress. But you’re in the space of love for the story, and then you actually see like, oh actually I need to cut this. I need to do this. But you’re in a such a state of allowance and love that it’s like a generative energy versus when you’re in that state of judgment, it just collapses everything. And that’s where you get the writer’s block and you can’t figure out what happens next and you hate the book. And you know, like when you’re in that horrible, not generative space is because you’re judging something. And so same thing when it’s a finished product and you’re launching it into the world. Just your love is powerful. And so like if you’re launching it into the world with love, the readers are gonna pick up that energy and they’re gonna love it too. If you launch it out with judgment, I betcha you get a bunch of bad reviews because they’ll match with your judgment. So you wanna be in that space of what’s fabulous about the book, and then that’ll attract all the readers who are also gonna love that and find that fabulous as well.

Renee also shared a creative strategy for using your body to manifest through orgasms on Episode 55:

Yeah, we can feel that turn on, like, it can be sexual. Your body gets turned on when you’re thinking about it and that tells you that you’re on the right, you’re in a generative space, right? Because literally like our sexuality was to create humans, right? To create life. And so it’s also still our creative centre. It’s our creative abode. And so we can use it. And today on Money Magic, on our call, our monthly call, one of the members said that she used that and her dance company was looking for a new home, and so she asked like at the moment of orgasm. Like sent out her ask for $10,000 donation and they got it and she was like, it worked. And so I gave the assignment today. I was like, everybody go home or wherever, maybe they’re already home, and have a millionaire orgasm today. You know? And everyone was like, I volunteer.

Bestselling author and founder of the Alliance of Independent Authors, Orna Ross, suggested using Free Writing as a tool to tune into your subconscious, in Episode 74.

So Free Writing to me is magic, and you know, a lot of writer’s journal, but Free Writing is sort of, again, my own thing that I kind of found my way into, but then used a lot. I mentioned the teaching I did at UCD all those years ago. At that time, I worked in the Women’s Studies Department and I used Free Writing not just for writers or students who were, you know, writing exam papers and things, but for women prisoners and women who were struggling with drug addiction, and women immigrants and, you know, all sorts of different situations, and saw just how magical it is when we use writing to talk to ourselves. And we’ve got so many different aspects to ourselves and so many different parts, and we’re always kind of streamlining ourselves and putting out our social self, our acceptable self out to the world. But there are all these other parts inside that want expression as well. And when we don’t give them room to express, they act out. And they act out often in the form of blocking us, sabotaging us, because they’re jumping up and down saying, look at me, you know, you’re going to do something you shouldn’t do, or I want to spare you pain there, or, you know, all the parts are always kind of acting in our best overall best interest, but it can be hard to see it that way. And what free writing does is accepts it all and allows you a method whereby you get past the conscious controlling mind that doesn’t want, you know, wants to keep everything linear, and the goal is there and I am here and I proceed nicely towards my goal. Well, no, we don’t. We never do. And it’s not like that. If I’m here and I want to go there, there is going to be resistance. Some part of me is going to resist. And then understanding the nature of that resistance and what it is trying to say to you and listening and allowing and accepting, that kind of dynamic, it was really important to me that any planning method I would use myself and that I would share with others would recognise those dynamics of resistance. And I don’t like, unlike very many people, I’m not a fan of the War of Art or go to war with your resistance. I think it just strengthens it. In my experience, it never worked for me. If I tried to discipline myself, I run out of the room. I just do not respond well to discipline. You know, you gotta coax me. So I have to coax my different parts out and Free Writing is a really useful tool just to listen to myself at different levels.

She also encouraged rest and play as a tool for getting in alignment with our best author life.

Yeah, it is. It is so important because it is the process. As authors, as busy indie authors, we tend to think of rest and play as breaks from our work, but actually it is our work. So, you know, we’re all familiar with the experience of the best ideas coming when we’re at rest in the shower, waking up, going to sleep, you know, when we switch off the conscious mind. This is not just, you know, woo-woo or writer’s lore. This is actually, you know, there’s a complete scientific explanation as to why this happens. So consciously planning your rest and consciously planning your play gets you into flow more often and deeper. The more you consciously do it and doing it consciously is the important part, I think, and that I’d like to touch on here, because when you factor your rest and your play in, and when you’re intentional about rest and play and the intention is that you’re resting for your work and you’re playing for your work and you’re, you know, and you’re working when you’re at work, you can also bring in playful moments and restful moments. When you get it in that integrated sort of way, everything flows better. And you know, if I tell authors that means they’ll be more productive, they’re more likely to go for it for that reason. I would love us to go for it for the reason that we live a better life, you know. We just have a better time and it is a more self-loving thing to do and it is a healthier thing to do and it means we’ll live longer and be better company and, you know, better people in the world, less snappy with our kids or whatever it might be, you know, all of the above.

So yeah, I really have to remind myself, this is where this came from. I have to remind my, not so much now, now I’m, you know, I’m in a rhythm, I know when I, and I do often fall off, but I know I’m never off for very long and I know how to get myself back. But when you’re a bad case, as I would have been years ago, you know, you don’t even know you’re off. You don’t, you’re not even aware of it, or if you are, you’ve no idea how to get back into a place where you’re afraid if you stop working so hard, it’s all going to fall apart. It’s not, you’re not going to get anywhere. And the fear is not rational and it’s driving behaviours that are not serving you as well as, you know, if you stop and you reconnect with that wiser part of yourself.

In Episode 77, Lee Savino recommended physical decluttering to make space for what we want to manifest:

That was another really cool thing that happened, I will say decluttering. Meaning taking things out of your life that are annoying you, and it could be literally be things in your garage or house that are broken. Just start to remove those. And emotionally setting boundaries. I found those things work really well because they actually change your thinking. Cause you don’t walk into your house and go, Oh, what a mess. You walk in your house and be like, Oh, it’s so pretty. You know? So just get your house to the state that you would before you move, before you sell it. Right? You’re like, okay, what paint colours, whatever it is. And, just start to work towards that, because you want to feel really good every time you look around.

It’s a little echoey in here, but this is actually my writing space. It is the top of my garage and there’s like nothing in here but a chair for me. And then this standing desk where I’m standing now. And I come up here and it’s my space and it mentally is so freeing, right? I’m not sitting here going, Oh, there’s a pile of laundry. I’m like, Oh, this is great. And of course, I didn’t start that way. I couldn’t afford like a nice, beautiful space. So I did start in my bedroom with a pile of laundry, but I was mentally going, Oh, I’m free to be an author. So that was free enough. But as you want to grow more, declutter your space. So if you have a mug that’s chipped that you hate, just go ahead and recycle it, donate it, reuse it as a mosaic or something, and get yourself a beautiful mug, and that can be a $10 purchase that makes you feel really good every time you see it. And then you start to replace things in your house. And usually if you replace one thing, like if someone replaces an old ratty couch, the furniture stores know this, they’ll end up replacing everything in that room to match.

And it literally raises my self-esteem. In fact, I set a boundary with someone the other day and they wanted to use this writing space and I was like, no, this is my office. This is my space. And it was my mom. So I set this boundary with my mother. I felt my self-esteem rise, like, no, I’m a millionaire author. I’m a 10 million a year author, or whatever. I have my own office and this is my space. And I also felt a little nauseated. Like I was going to throw up because it’s hard to set boundaries sometimes, but I could feel the self-esteem. Like I stood taller and was like, this is what I need. This is what I deserve. There’s an underlying, I deserve this. And especially when it comes to stuff, if you’re holding on to old stuff, that’s broken and you’re like, well, I might need that one day and underlying that is, and I won’t have the money to fix it. So just by recycling it or donating it or throwing it away, you mentally affirm that you have more than enough and you will have money in the future. And it can be pretty powerful, but take it, do baby steps. Like you probably already have a new toothbrush in your drawer. Go ahead and throw away your old one and just take out the new one. You know what I mean? We all have some, like, we have nice China, but we all, we use the old dishes. Just use the China more. you are special enough. It is a special enough occasion on a Monday night for you to use your nicest stuff. And that can be really helpful. And it sounds really ridiculous. But again, this is the way our brain works.

In Episode 86 Lyda McLallen suggested romanticising your author life:

Yeah. I think it’s so important. Like it’s just about like, cause I mean, it’s a mindset. It’s a trick as well on your mindset. Because your mind can’t really tell the difference between reality and conscious, like thoughts going into your head. So I romanticise my work all the time and I romanticise doing work and everything. I also generally love what I do, but it’s also like, I get excited in the morning. ‘Cause I’ll have my coffee or I’ll sometimes go walk my dog and go get a latte and I get excited about it. But that also is tied and attached to work. ‘Cause I get excited to work then. And I like to have a little chocolate or something sweet while I work. And just things that. I genuinely love is like, I just picture myself the night before, ‘cause I just like, Oh, this is going to be such a lovely day. I’m going to have my coffee in the morning with my little biscuit. Or like, if you’re writing, I like to just set the mood for myself. But it’s kind of, it’s like, think of yourself going on a date. When I’m doing something like work for just myself. Like, I don’t like doing Instagram reels for myself. I don’t mind doing it for my authors, but for myself, I’m just like, oh, I have to do this. So I’ll set the mood. I’m like, okay, I’m going to edit today. I’m going to have some nice tea or a glass of wine, or I’m going to do my hair, or something like that. I’ll just set the mood for myself more than anything, if that makes sense.

Over and over again, meditating came up as a popular practice for manifestation. Tammy Tyree had this to say about it in Episode 56:

But yeah, I have, I try to maintain a daily practice of meditation. I’m not always into it, and I don’t think it’s always necessary. It’s sort of, you know, lots of things can be meditative. Going for a bike ride, going for a walk. Just sitting in contemplation can be very meditating. Right? It can help you to sort of open that, open yourself up to more creativity. So I think that we kind of get in our own way a lot of times too by just thinking and, oh, I’m struggling, I’m struggling. I wish I could do this. I wish I could do that. But the more you think about the struggle, the more struggle you’re gonna have. But just sort of sitting and just relaxing and, and focusing on more positive frame of mind, you’re gonna flip that switch and you’ll be able to, you know, sit down and really create something good.

Photographer and travel writer, Jeremiah Gilbert, incorporates meditation as a key component of his author life, and has this to say about it in Episode 76:

Yeah, definitely. I mean, it’s something I’ve done for years. You know, just first and foremost to just try to shut off my mind for a little bit, because I do tend to think too much. When I was younger, I mean, it was one of those, I’d go to bed at night and then fire up and, you know, something would hit me and I’d just be creating until like two in the morning. Now that doesn’t happen. Just the mind just keeps you awake. Like, this is annoying. And you also, you know, reduce stress and such. But I do find two of the benefits of meditation are it can help you, well, actually three, it can help you be grounded. It can help you focus and then also just, sort of, you know, I can be a very self-critical person. So in meditation, there’s a notion of loving kindness, both for others and for yourself. And also, just to appreciate there’s going to be times where thoughts creep in. Don’t get upset at yourself. Just let them go. Just recognise them. Let them go. Or there’s gonna be times you just really don’t feel like it. But again, you know, maybe that day I just do five minutes instead of 20 minutes, but at least I did something. So now I find it’s a very good practice. I’ve been doing a series of guided meditations. But all’s going well I can just sit and do a nice quiet meditation. That’s great. There’s other times where it kind of helps just remind myself, you know, Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Or, you know, Oh yeah, that’s right, this breathing technique will help calm me. This breathing technique will give me some energy.

So yeah, I’ve always found it to be a great way to just sort of, say, be grounded, calm myself. You know, when I was younger, and I had some problem to solve before I meditated, I would find just going for a walk and just trying not to think about the issue, and then suddenly you’d solve it. And I kind of feel meditation again, while I’m not trying to use it as problem solving, just shut off the mind, just get quiet. And then when you come out of it, you’re sort of like, Oh yeah, maybe I can try this approach or, you know, Hey, maybe things aren’t as bad as I thought they were. So for me, it’s great to just sort of ground and calm the mind, because otherwise, yeah, my mind goes all over the place.

What’s interesting to me is how mainstream and practical many aspects of manifestation are. It is not all woo-woo. It is really just about aligning your mindset and your writing practice to align with your goals.

But what happens when you’re doing all the ‘things’ but your manifestations just don’t seem to be happening?

There were two key things my guests often talked about – having trust in the process and trust in divine timing – things will happen when they’re meant to happen.

In Episode 55 Renee Rose had this to say about divine timing:

Sometimes I think there’s divine timing involved. And so sometimes I say like, it’s what’s needed here is just a tincture of time. Because we’re looking at like quantum entanglements. So like the universe is like, you sent out your ask, the universe is working on delivering it to you. But there may be like all these different things that have to happen to make it, and probably the universe is working on several different possibilities to bring you the thing. And so sometimes it’s just like trusting that it is coming.

She also had this to say about having trust in the process:

But it’s kind of like finding that trust, like knowing it will happen. And I heard this story and I wish I knew who it was, but the story’s kind of second-hand, like a coach had told it to me, but where she was listening to an interview of this actress who kind of got this hit. She was trying to make it, trying to make it, trying to make it. And then she got the intuitive hit that like, it won’t be until you’re like 66, and it was like a long time, that you’re gonna hit it. And then, so instead of being upset by that, it was almost like, you know, when you’re, like you think you have cancer and then you get to live longer. She just started living every day, its beautiful. You know, she stopped striving. She knew it was gonna come when she was 67 or whatever it was. She trusted that and just lived her days beautifully. And then it did happen much later as predicted. So I just think if we could be there instead of the striving, it’s that striving that then ends up becoming a repellent to what we’re asking for, right? So if you could just like let go of that and bring in the trust and that’s that sort of receiving piece, like that’s where we start pushing something away instead of receiving it in is when we’re going why isn’t it here yet?

In Episode 94 – Renee reminded us that we are always manifesting:

Yeah. I mean, I think what you said, perseverance, I do believe that sometimes there’s divine timing involved. So like you’re doing all the things and you are an energetic match, and like the universe is still putting together the pieces for you. Like in a year and a half, you’re going to write the book that hits a trend that hit on TikTok, you know, but like, you’re not there yet. And so then it’s just like, where trust comes in. Or if you’re religious, you would say the faith, like, it’s that sense of holding hope in your field, I think, or you know, holding that buoyancy in your field. Trusting that it is going to come and then you stay a match for it, right? Instead of being like, I thought it was coming. I must’ve messed up. You know. Sometimes people think I’m not manifesting right. Like I’m bad at manifesting. Which we manifest every day. Like everything that’s in your life right now, you already manifested. So congratulations. You’re already an amazing manifester.

And if there’s things you pulled in that you don’t like, it might be that some shadowy part of you is secretly aligned with that. So it might be you think you want success, but you know, you had an experience in eighth grade where the girls, you know, you made the cheerleading team and you lost all your friends. And so now you equate success with loss. And so a part of your brain is keeping you from getting too popular, getting, you know, whatever the, like the pain was, the trauma that you experienced. Part of your brain is like, stay small, don’t get too big. Don’t get too rich, you’ll become a target or whatever that is. Or, you know, rich people are horrible people. I don’t want you to be a horrible person, so let’s play it low. Let’s play it, you know, like, let’s not go for it. Or you had like a past money trauma where you invested in something and it didn’t go well, and so now you’re like, oh, I can’t invest in my books because last time I lost the house or, you know, whatever the money wound you have is that needs to be healed. And so a lot of that is like healing your old little micro trauma, micro, macro, I don’t, whichever they are, traumas around money, but also just around self-worth and what you think is possible.

When we listen and pay attention, we begin to see synchronicities spring up, breadcrumbs laid out by the universe. Manifesting doesn’t have to be hard when we surrender. This is what Renee Rose had to say about it in Episode 55:

Yeah, and like knowing that you don’t have to grind it out and make it happen, like your ask was enough. And then you just follow the breadcrumbs that the universe sends to you, you know? So that’s that surrender. Like, you know, you show up the way, if you get called, like you’ll know when you get the nudge. Like, do this, do that, and then you show up. You don’t go, oh, no, I don’t know. I don’t think this is for me. Like you don’t do the unworthy thing. You show up when you’re supposed to show up, but you don’t, you also don’t have to make it happen.

In Episode 78 – Joanna Penn had this to say about synchronicity:

Well, it’s funny because I also have this thing, and this is Carl Jung as well: Jungian psychology. Jung calls it synchronicity and these kind of things that are coincidences, but almost, I don’t want to say spiritual coincidences or some kind of unconscious coincidence. And this comes up in my research, every single book. So I based my books very much, well my Arcane books on deep research. So Spear of Destiny. And there’s always a moment because I’m following the truth, like its history, they’re not historical books but I base it on history, and I’m like, I really need a connection between this particular place in Germany and Washington DC in the USA that fits into the way I want the book to go that I think the book should go. And there was nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing. And then this happened this week and when it happens, it’s like, Oh, this is so much fun. That is something that happened. And I was like, Oh, that is so cool. You couldn’t make it up. And there it is. It’s actually true. And then in my author’s note, which I love doing as part of these books in particular, I always write down all my research and my readers are always like, Oh my goodness, I just love looking all this up on checking all your research on Wikipedia. Like, is that really true? And then I turn at the last minute, I’m turning it into slightly supernatural fiction, you know. So it’s so much fun. But yeah, Jung calls that synchronicity, that moment of, Oh my goodness, I was writing that and it’s actually correct.

I have found this throughout my life. When I’m in alignment with what I am trying to manifest my world experience fills with synchronicities, or what people call coincidences.

To wrap up, this is really just a small sample of the advice offered by guests on the show. I really do recommend you go back and listen to any episodes and guests that spoke to you today.

Key to all the conversations though, is the reminder that your path will not be the same as anyone else’s. Your path to success as an author will look different. You will endure different struggles, and celebrate different successes, and there is no set timing for when these things occur. My final thoughts on this matter, were said best in Episode 91 by bestselling author, Troy Lambert:

Oh, man, the only advice that I would say at this point is be you because everybody else is taken. And that leads to your author life as well. You can follow, and I would argue that maybe you need to when you first start out, to emulate somebody else’s process and follow somebody else’s process to use that as a tool to figure out what works for you. But eventually you’re going to have what I always call the “and then” moment. And the “and then” moment is when you’re going to say, I took Troy’s process and then… and you’re going to tell me how you made it your own. And that is the moment that matters in your writer life more than anything else, is the moment when you decide how you are going to do it and how you are going to make it work. And that’s why number one advice to you is just be yourself and find your own path.
