Episode 94: Relax to Riches with Renee Rose
Jo: Hello, my friend. Happy December.
I appreciate you joining me for another episode of Alchemy for Authors. And this is one that I’m super excited about because I have best-selling author and manifestation for authors expert, Renee Rose back on the show. So Renee was on the show back in Episode 55 to talk about her book Write to Riches. If you’ve been listening to Alchemy for Authors for a while, you know that I am always raving about this book. It is amazing. It’s the best book out there, in my mind, about the Law of Attraction and Manifestation for authors and writers who want to create author lives and businesses that they love. I’ve also spent the last couple of months enrolled in Renee’s Write to Riches course, and it has been phenomenal. Like honestly, I just love it. It is helping significantly with my mindset. And as you’ll hear in today’s episode that doesn’t mean that everything’s been super easy and money has been falling from the sky, but, I have been able to see lots of changes already in my life through embracing Renee’s teachings.
In today’s episode, Renee is going to be talking about her new book, Relax to Riches, and who doesn’t love the idea of being a successful author in a more relaxed way? So Renee is going to be talking about how to take your manifesting practice to the next level and learning to manifest with ease. So some of the things that we’re going to cover is how shadow work can help you manifest faster and easier. Why things can sometimes get worse before they get better. It happens, trust me, I’ve been there. Why you may feel like your manifestations just aren’t working. Something that I’m really excited for you to hear more about is how you can use sleep and lucid dreaming to manifest your author goals. And what your dreams are trying to tell you about your energy and your manifestations. She is also going to give us a brief overview of the nine tools for relaxing to riches that she goes in more depth in, in her book.
Now, I was really lucky to have been gifted an ARC copy of her book that I am reading at the moment and I honestly do think this is another one that every open-minded author out there who wants to manifest with ease an author career that they love and an income along with that that they love, should have this book on their bookcase. Once you’ve listened to this episode, I do recommend you check out some of the links that I’m going to have in the show notes as to other episodes that kind of complement this one and some of the resources that get mentioned in today’s episode.
One of the resources I just want to bring up is the Money Magic Membership, which is a membership hosted by both Renee Rose and her friend Lee Savino. And if you’re wanting a supportive network of other authors and writers, and access to Renee and Lee and their wealth of knowledge in creating not only successful author careers through all the practical ways, but also in aligning your mindset to fast track those careers coming into fruition, then the Money Magic Membership is definitely something that I recommend. And the cool thing is you can grab one month free to try it out for yourself, to see if you like it, to see if it’s for you, when you use my link that will be in the show notes and the coupon code, JO, just J O.
So again, check out those show notes at the end of this episode for links to other resources that I think will help you along in your manifestation journey.
So on that note, when you’re ready, grab a drink, find a comfy chair, sit back and enjoy the show.

She employs energetic tools and techniques to help her clients’ clear resistance and money blocks, access their inner guidance, and tap into their love and appreciation for their books so they can achieve their dreams.
So welcome back, Renee. I’m so excited to have you join us again.
Renee: Thanks so much for having me.
Jo: Yay! Well, to start, just in case anybody listening is new to this podcast and hasn’t heard of you yet or heard me rave about your amazing book, Write to Riches, or anything else, can you share a little bit of your background as to what led you to be so passionate about implementing the principles of manifestation into your author career?
Renee: Yeah. So I stumbled on manifestation. I had a next-door neighbour who was into it when I was like 25, and she would say things like, “I’m just putting it out to the universe”. And so I started just putting things out to the universe and was amazed that I very quickly manifested, you know. I was making nine bucks an hour, and I’d worked like five different jobs in the last year. So I wasn’t like someone… but like all of a sudden, I was like, I’m going to put it out to the universe that I can buy a house. And then my dad was like, “Hey, I’d like to help you buy a house”. I’m like, oh my God, this stuff really works. And I was like, I’m going to put it out to the universe that I have a job using my degree. Because at that point I was doing secretarial work and I have an English degree. And then someone called me to say, we’d like you to be our technical writer. Like just out of the blue, you know, they found me. So I was dang, this stuff works. And so then I was hooked.
I was totally hooked on what else I could manifest and how to use that to my advantage. And in some ways, I used it to avoid things also. Like I would go the manifestation route rather than the confrontation route. Like if something didn’t work for me, instead of setting a boundary, I’d be like, Oh, I’m going to manifest that person to go away. Or, you know, like, that worked too. But, yeah, and we can talk about that more, but that’s sort of where my new book is more about looking at those things that you’re scared of looking at so you don’t have to just magic away your problems. Because then it makes magic work actually faster.
Jo: Yeah. That’s cool. I like that.
Renee: Yeah. So then for authoring, of course I was using it because I was, you know, I would just became like the Law of Attraction guru. It was my favourite topic. And then I didn’t think about actually sharing it with other authors until Sky Warren had invited me to do a RAM author table, maybe 2018 or 19. No, no, it was during the pandemic. So it was the year we didn’t go. So maybe 2020, 2021. And then I wrote Write to Riches after that because I was like, okay, there’s an audience for applying the Law of Attraction to author business.
Jo: Yeah. And there is. And I was so thrilled because I don’t think there are any other books specific for authors and writers where it’s the Law of Attraction or manifestation for authors and writers. Like, there’s nothing out there really, everything’s quite generic. So that’s nice. I like that.
Renee: Yeah. Cause then all the examples are like straight from what you’re dealing with.
Jo: Yeah, and you have the success to back it up as well, which is really nice too. I think if people need to know that this just works and it’s not just somebody making stuff up.
Renee: True. Very true.
Jo: Yeah. So can you share with us your definition of manifestation, because I know a lot of people have heard of Law of Attraction and manifestation, but there’s lots of misinformation out there about what it is and what it isn’t. So how would you define it?
Renee: Well, I do think, like, everything comes down to energy. And so if energy is like our finest, the finest level, the most granular level of everything we create, looking at the energy first can actually fast track your way into creating something. And so you want to be energetically aligned with the thing you’re going for, not the thing you’re pushing against. So a lot of times you spend a lot of focus on what you don’t like in your life and then you get more of that. And so the trick of manifesting is to focus on the things that you do want to show up, trust that they’re going to come, act as if they’re coming, embody the energy of they’ve already come. And then, as within, so without. Whatever you’re embodying in your physical body will show up on the outside.
Jo: Yeah, I like that. So I have been into manifestation for, I don’t even know how many years. It was even before The Secret came out. I’ve read a lot of books. I’ve been in this world for a long time and I’ve heard different ideas and that around it where, for a long time, I think people were very much your thoughts create your reality. But I’ve also heard equally, and tend to lean more towards, your feelings create your reality. Do you see a kind of distinction between the two? Or do you think it’s both? Or do you think you need one before the other? Or what really brings things into reality?
Renee: That is a fabulous question and you couldn’t have known it, but it leads right into my new book, which is Relax to Riches. Because we have our conscious thoughts and then we have our subconscious beliefs and thoughts, right? And so, you can work all day with the affirmation of like, you know, “I believe I’m going to make a million dollars at my author business”. But if the subconscious thought is you’re not good enough, then that’s in your energetic field. And so probably the feeling, if we did go by feelings, would be ugh. Like you think of the thing, but you know, the feeling might be a constriction in your chest or a tightness in your throat or, you know. So I think the feelings can be a really good indicator of the truth of the matter of what you actually believe. But I also think we can get super excited, feel happy about it, and there’s still, the thing is we’re fighting ourselves a lot of times, right? There’s still something in the back of your head that’s like, that’s not for you, you’re not deserving, you’re not good enough, and so it’s addressing those deepest shadowy parts of ourself.
And let me just say, first of all, that manifestation works perfectly even if you don’t. Like, I proved that at 25, I didn’t know anything, manifested house, job, you know, all of that stuff. So it’s not necessary to look at the shadow, but when you do, then you can just fast track.
Jo: I love that. And it’s really interesting. There was a question, I was going to save it till later, but I’m actually going to bring it up now, just because you mentioned the word shadow, and this is what it seems to be a little bit like. And right now, as my audience, if they’ve been listening, they know that I’m doing the Write to Riches course of yours, which I’m really loving. And I’m always doing other kind of things on the side and lots of affirmations and that. But I find that I do have that negative voice sometimes that isn’t on board with the affirmations, or I get the feeling, but then the feeling disappears. So I get that feeling of like, yes, this is coming to me, and then it disappears. And so I’ve been doing a little bit of thinking lately, looking at my finances and that and going, yuck, actually, this year has been a bit of a backwards year for me in some ways. And I was thinking about all the work that I’ve been doing, particularly over the last couple of months, and trying to keep positive but also being very aware not to be having that sense of urgency or anything of creating my future. So trying to let go and let be, and being optimistic. And then I’m like, hmm, something’s not working here. This is, sorry, this is a little bit long. But once upon a time I was studying to be a naturopath and I remember being told that there was such a thing as a healing crisis. So sometimes before you start on your path of healing, it feels like everything gets worse. Have you noticed that with the Law of Attraction, where sometimes when maybe you’re starting on the path things can sometimes look like they’re going backwards, like almost to clear out the gunk or work through that shadow? Have you seen that?
Renee: Yes, I do think it is clearing out the gunk. I think, you know, some people call it like a test. I don’t know if I would use the word test, but like the universe is testing, like, oh, are you done? Are you done with this? Are you done with constricting around money? Are you done with, you know, are you? Are you really done? Or were you just playing with us? You know, that sort of testing idea. I don’t think it’s actually like that manipulative, like it’s a test. But it certainly feels like that. It’s like that sort of trial of like, it’s a chance for you to look and say, am I done? Or am I going to roll right back into the pattern of scarcity and lack where I feel like constricted around money? Where I feel not worthy of, you know, like, my books aren’t good enough, or where I think it’s never going to happen to me, or where I start feeling, you know, sometimes people have a sense of desperation around money, you know. And usually there’s a lot of like judgment that piles in there. So then you start shaming yourself for your money habit, or you’re judging yourself that your book didn’t do better this last release or, you know, and then that judgment just starts weighing, you know, talk about getting heavier in your body. It just weighs it down. You’re not open to possibility when the more like shut down you get that way.
Jo: Yeah. So what would your advice be then, because for me, I’m like perseverance. We just keep on going. Yeah. But if somebody’s new to the Law of Attraction and manifestation, and maybe they’re starting out and they feel that they’re clearing away some of the gunk that, you know, they’re clearing the decks, they’re bringing in more positive thoughts and feelings and getting clear of what they want to bring in. But things in their external world seem to maybe not be matching what’s going on in the internal world, what would your advice be to them or what is something that they can do to kind of see themselves through to the other side while they kind of work through that?
Renee: Yeah. I mean, I think what you said, perseverance, I do believe that sometimes there’s divine timing involved. So like you’re doing all the things and you are an energetic match, and like the universe is still putting together the pieces for you. Like in a year and a half, you’re going to write the book that hits a trend that hit on TikTok, you know, but like, you’re not there yet. And so then it’s just like, where trust comes in. Or if you’re religious, you would say the faith, like, it’s that sense of like, holding hope in your field, I think, or you know, holding that buoyancy in your field. Trusting that it is going to come and then you stay a match for it, right? Instead of being like, I thought it was coming. I must’ve messed up. You know. Sometimes people think I’m not manifesting right. Like I’m bad at manifesting. Which we manifest every day. Like everything that’s in your life right now, you already manifested. So congratulations. You’re already an amazing manifester. And if there’s things you pulled in that you don’t like, it might be that some shadowy part of you is secretly aligned with that. So it might be you think you want success, but you know, you had an experience in eighth grade where the girls, you know, you made the cheerleading team and you lost all your friends. And so now you equate success with loss. And so a part of your brain is keeping you from getting too popular, getting, you know, whatever the, like the pain was, the trauma that you experienced. Part of your brain is like, stay small, don’t get too big. Don’t get too rich, you’ll become a target or whatever that is. Or, you know, rich people are horrible people. I don’t want you to be a horrible person, so let’s play it low. Let’s play it, you know, like, let’s not go for it. Or you had like a past money trauma where you invested in something and it didn’t go well, and so now you’re like, oh, I can’t invest in my books because last time I lost the house or, you know, whatever the money wound you have is that needs to be healed. And so a lot of that is like healing your old little micro trauma, micro, macro, I don’t, whichever they are, traumas around money, but also just around self-worth and what you think is possible.
Jo: Yeah, yeah, I think you’re spot on there. And I think sometimes too, I keep getting the message of you’ve got to open the door. So we put up our blocks, we put up our blocks and we’re like, we want this, we want this, we want this, but maybe we’re just actually not opening the door enough to allow it.
Renee: So yeah, like you say you want it, but you only opened like the door a crack because you’re protecting like the other parts, like protecting or I mean, sometimes not opening the door is being in a conclusion of how it’s going to come. So you’re like, Oh, I want abundance, but it has to come from this book in this way. When, in fact, it might be you had that idea for another book and the universe is trying to get you to write that other book, and if you would open the doors wide and see that the other book is actually your path to massive abundance, but you had a conclusion like, no, it was over here. So us trying to control it too much or trying to figure out the how or try, you know, sometimes having the plan and working your plan might get in the way of abundance.
Jo: Yes, I think so. And so this is why I’m so fascinated about your new book, because by its title alone, I think it challenges a lot of, I want to say misconceptions that people have about being able to manifest or create author lives, or the wealth or success or whatever that they want. Because your new book is called Relax to Riches. And I mean, even for myself, I’m like, I’m one of the worst for this. Cause I’m like, relax. Like, I can’t relax. There’s too much to do. You know?
Renee: That’s it. Right. Like this book came around for me to learn all these, you know, because I am definitely like an overachiever and also like a workaholic, you know. Hamster wheel, like work, work, work. I’m like a lot of fire energy. Like, I go hot. And so sometimes it is like our creations just need, it’s like that space we talked about, like a little more time, trust that the universe, you know, sometimes it just needs us to like, give it more space. And so I think it’s been out there for a while, that whole idea, I think Abraham-Hicks talks about this, like, just making yourself feel better. Like, just pet your cat, get in a better state. So some of Relax to Riches is just tending to yourself.
Jo: Yeah. Oh, good.
Renee: So with Relax to Riches, part of it also is using your sleep time. It’s like 30 percent of our lives are spent sleeping. And so that is a really ripe time to work with your subconscious and your subconscious is really what’s, you know, I think they say, like, our conscious mind comprises like 15 percent of our thoughts and then 85 percent is really what drives us.
That subconscious mind is 85%. And so sleep is a time we can address that and dreams will reveal. And so what I was doing, I started playing with this idea of, like, reverse engineering manifest, because they say, like, whatever you dream about is the direction your energy is headed. And so I was like, well, then if that’s true, I could program my dreams for what I want to manifest, right? And so of course, as I started playing with that, the blocks also showed up in the dreams, right? So I was like, I want to get speaking gigs for my coaching work. So I’m picturing myself in front of a stadium full of people. So in the dream, I’m at the stadium, I’m underneath the bleachers sweeping the floor. I’m the janitor. I was like, okay, so you’re not worthy of being on that stage, but you did show up at the stadium. All right. So let’s look at that. Like, why do you think you’re the janitor cleaning the floor? And so it both gives you an idea of where you are, but also like alerts the subconscious that you’re updating.
I just think this is interesting. My youngest just turned 16 and got his driver’s license, which is like a big milestone. And I’ve been having these dreams where in the dream, my dream self is like, but you’re too little to drive! And then it’ll be like, no, look, he’s that old. You know. It’s like showing me, I’m looking at two pictures, like, yesterday he was six! And they’re like, no, no, look! And so it’s like my conscious brain is trying to update the subconscious that they’re not babies anymore, you know. And so it’s the same thing. So we’re going to feed it what you want to achieve and get it to update.
Jo: I really, really like this because I mean, for starters, who doesn’t like the idea of using the time that you’re sleeping to create the life that you want? Fantastic. And I’ve always had really vivid dreams. Every night before I go to sleep I try and meditate. In fact, I tend to fall asleep during meditating. That’s the last thing I do. So I tend to fall asleep with the, you know, the happy, happy, joy, joy thoughts and what I want to create and things like that. But what I hadn’t thought of was, even though I’m aware of dreams and that, that processing of what’s kind of going on in your life. I hadn’t really thought of it in the words of where your energy is headed. Because that’s really interesting. I have been a person who, um, I’m prone to a lot of anxiety dreams and nightmares and almost every night of my life, except for two nights ago, I had the most random, happy, literally rainbows, unicorns, fairies, kind of dream, and I was telling everybody cause I’m like, this is so weird for me. Like this isn’t what I dream, but like really positive. Yeah, so I really like that about where your energy is headed because sometimes our energy, I think is it’s already doing the work and we may not see it on the outside. And so I think that’s a really good reminder too.
Renee: It’s also like, it’s a really ripe space to receive guidance, you know. If you have a question you’re chewing on you can ask your higher self, or I think sometimes if you believe you have guides, like your guides show up. I had people who were doing this practice with me and they had like departed husband or parent or grandparent show up, someone’s cat, you know. So you can get visits from the other side.
Jo: Yeah. Yeah.
Renee: Which is kind of cool.
Jo: It is cool. Oh, I love that. I’ve always been a huge believer in the power of dreams and the messages and that that come through. But yeah, it’s strange that I’d never made the connection that it can also be where your energy is headed as well. So how can we best prep ourselves then for, I don’t want to say a productive night’s sleep, but kind of?
Renee: Yes. That’s a perfect question. What I’m suggesting, and what I suggest in the book, is that you sort of start to think of sleep time as your sleep spa. And it sounds like you’re already doing that, right? You’re setting yourself up. So it’s like you get a cozy blanket, you make it a nice cozy space. I have the tendency to like stay up too late and then by the time I go to bed I barely get my bra off and, you know, flop down. So it’s not doing that. It’s like, maybe you start a half hour early, you actually wash your face, you put on your pyjamas, or whatever, however you like to sleep. No, no judgment if you don’t sleep in pyjamas. But making it like, so that there’s a bit of a… yeah. Because when you do that, you’re signalling to the subconscious, when you make a ritual out of it, you signal to the subconscious that something important is going to happen, and it pays more attention than when you just drag yourself in and flop down.
So we’re like, okay, there’s this intentionality of this is my sleep spa. I have a sleep ritual that I go through, maybe. And so some of the things we do is listening, like you’re doing, listening to something before you fall asleep. Or you could journal, like, write a question in your journal and then in the morning, see if the answer showed up. Just recording dreams. So, like, playing with that sleep time in just a variety of ways, trying to lucid dream into being, like, I was trying to get the stadium of people. And I did. I would like to report that I did. I ended up, I don’t know if it was the Emmys or the Grammys, but I was on stage. So I was like, okay, it worked. I got my energy going in the right direction now.
Jo: Cool. fantastic. Well, that’s exciting.
Renee: Yes. And I did just speak at Romance Author Mastermind in front of, you know, three hundred people.
Jo: There we are.
Renee: So it manifested, you know.
Jo: Yes, absolutely. Oh, I really like this idea of using your sleep and your dreams and that. So you mentioned lucid dreaming. I’ve been playing with this probably since I was a kid, actually. But can you explain maybe for people who are new to lucid dreaming, what it is and what steps they can take to maybe experiment with it themselves?
Renee: Yeah, so the idea is you become aware that you’re dreaming in the dream. So it’s just like that one part of myself was like, no, he’s not six anymore about my son being grown up. But it’s more like you, like you realize you’re in a dream, and then as soon as you do you can start changing things. And I don’t know if you’ve seen that movie, I always get this title wrong, but it’s like Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, or something like that?
Jo: I know the movie. I don’t think I’ve seen it yet, but I’ve heard about it. Yes.
Renee: Yeah. She has this ability. It’s not about dreaming, but she has this ability, you know, she’ll just sort of like wave a hand and donuts will float through the air, you know. And it’s really, it’s just like that in your dream when you get lucid. And so what I noticed was like, I was having all these dreams, like one of my recurring dreams is very unpleasant, was like filthy bathrooms. So I’d be like, oh, I have to go to the bathroom. And it’s like, you know, an old outhouse, like, just disgusting. And I was like, why is this a theme? But clearly, it’s because like the unconscious is processing the literal – I don’t know what I can say on here – crap.
Jo: Yeah, you can say whatever. It’s all good. Yeah.
Renee: And, so when I was able to get lucid, I would wave my hand and it would suddenly just go shiny, clean, beautiful, open, you know, it turns into like a luxury, yeah, architecture, modern architecture, magazine bathroom, from like the basement crappy, like disgusting.
Jo: Yes. I had those dreams. I had those dreams. They must be really common. Cause yeah.
Renee: Yeah. Yeah. And then, you know, I had like, because I was working on self-confidence, I was able to manipulate like, Oh, I walk in a room and roses are thrown at my feet. It was just feeling received like that sense of… So I was just manipulating… So kind of the trick, because I was using this to manifest, not just to play with lucid dreaming, is to think of what images fit what you’re trying to manifest. And it’s really useful whether you end up lucid dreaming or not, that’s really useful because then you’re getting the, like you said, is it the feeling or the thought, but you’re getting the feeling state, the frequency of the thing you desire to manifest by thinking. Because a lot of times people are like, well, I’d like an extra $3,000. Well, it’s hard to just dream about an extra $3,000 unless, you know, maybe you picture cash, someone counting cash money out. But what is the feeling of having the $3,000 like? Is it that you’re going out to dinner or, you know. So it’s like having that, what would you dream about to make… what would happen in a dream that would represent you having that kind of helps you get the flavour. And then when you have the flavour you can hold it in your body, and then as within, so without, it’ll show up for you.
Jo: Yeah. Yeah. I really like that. So this is a little bit different than Write to Riches where you didn’t really talk about sleeping or anything like that. So before we started this, you said there were nine, was it nine kind of principles or tips? Do you want to talk a little about that?
Renee: Yes. Nine tools. So the first one is what we just talked about is find the frequency. So it’s like, not just the number in the bank account, but like, what is that state? How does it feel in your body to have whatever it is you’re asking for? Because a lot of times people are like, okay, I want to make six figures from my book. And so the question is like, do you want that to feel successful? Or do you want that because you need the six figures desperately for your kid’s operation? You know. Like what is the… so when you find the frequency, is it success? Is it luxury? Is it abundance? Is it, you know, like finding that frequency? So that’s the first step.
And then because this book focuses on shadow work, number two is unpack unworthiness because that is definitely like a showstopper for manifestation. So when you think you want something but part of your brain, your subconscious, thinks you’re unworthy of it, you’re going to be repelling it. You’re simultaneous. You’ll get some, you’ll get it, you’ll get some of it, but you’ll also be repelling it.
And then the third step is looking at your fears. So, and then finding freedom. So when you actually do look at your fears and allow them to move through you, you hold radical approval for them, then they don’t get, they’re not lurking like the little, you know, monster in the closet. And so just finding freedom from the fears is really… and often you find out they’re just not as scary as you thought. Like once you’re able to shine the light on them, it’s like the monster in the closet. You turn on the light and it was just your backpack.
Jo: Yeah. Yeah. And I think when we remember too that our fears – we create them to protect ourselves, you know, so they’re actually doing the good guy’s job. They’re doing what I ask them to do, right?
Renee: They’re always there working for you. And so then instead of like judging them, it’s like thanking them. Thank you so much for showing up, for trying to keep me safe. But I’m all grown up now. I’m a successful author and actually, you know, you’re holding me back. So is there another way you could support me?
And then the next step is the sleeping, and that’s a pretty long, like there’s several chapters with that because there was a lot I packed in there, including using your sleep spa to heal the body, also to get answers for intuition, to program, to work with your, like what comes up for dreams. So there was a lot in that section. That’s kind of a large section of the book.
And then the next step is laughter. Laughter, first of all, it raises the vibration and it clears energy just naturally. It’s like the body’s natural way of clearing, even including like, if you believe in this, like energetic attachments, that sort of thing. Like negative energies that are attached to you. They can’t stay when you’re laughing. They can’t be, you know, like any vampiric attachment you have, like it can’t stay sucking you. It has to leave. So I have a chapter about, you know, just how to make yourself laugh. But some of it too, is when you look at the shadow side, it often lightens up and makes you laugh. When you shine the light and find out it’s just a backpack, then you’re, like, there is, like, laughter bubbles up and it’s solved, it’s healed, it’s solved. And not in a, like, it was cleared way, but in a, oh, now I have this part of myself I was holding away from myself. And it’s back in the fold and it’s helping. Now I have more of myself to work for what I was trying to achieve.
Jo: I love that you brought laughter into it. Because there’s nothing better and it totally raises your vibration. And while you’re saying all this, like I’d said that I kind of learned how to lucid dream really, really young. So ever since I can remember, I’ve dreamed pretty much every night and I used to have nightmares, and somewhere along the line, I learned how to, when the nightmare was getting too scary, like literally, you know, monsters and people chasing me and all that, I learned how to pause and quickly put in an advert like you’d see on TV. Which is ridiculous. Like I know it’s so ridiculous, but as a little child, that’s what I would do. So all of a sudden it would be like a terrifying, scary movie going in my head. And then there’d be quickly like an advert for chippies, or I don’t know, something random, and there might be cartoon characters, and I’d be like, and back to the scheduled show. But by then, like I could jump back into the nightmare, but it wouldn’t be so bad, or I could manipulate it, or you know what I mean?
Renee: Yeah, lighten it up. Yeah.
Jo: Yeah. That was my first kind of thing with lucid dreaming. So, yeah, humour. Yeah, it’s great.
Renee: Yeah. So, yeah, when I’m coaching someone, I like to poke it, because you know, a lot of times people are hiding this thing about themselves that they think is so bad and terrible. And then that’s the thing, like, when it comes out, when we bring it out into the open with a little bit of humour, it’s like, Oh, ha ha. You know. So like someone’s so ashamed that, you know, they got a degree and they just spent all that money on a degree and they don’t want to use it. And I’m like, yeah, what would happen if you just threw that degree on the trash and set fire to it? And then they laugh. Yeah. Right. But that was their deepest fear that made them think, feel they were a bad person, you know, a bad, bad person. And then we got it out there and we watched it burn and now, you know, it just lightens it up.
So like that laughter piece is a way of holding all of yourself. You know? And so I have recommendations of just like, have a laughter night. And actually, I think from watching too much TV, a lot of us don’t laugh out loud much anymore. And so it may feel mechanical at first, but just make yourself laugh out loud at first. Like, put on, you know, Brooklyn Nine Nine, whatever, or something funny. And then just purposely laugh really loud. And then by the end, like your belly’s all warm, you’ve got a little core workout, but your mood is so light. And if you’re doing it with people, like your laughter gets them going and vice versa. Yeah.
Jo: Yeah. Yeah. The other thing is sometimes, and this is really ridiculous, but sometimes you can actually like, I don’t know, like go onto YouTube or I guess TikTok or Reels or something, and you can find little videos of people with crazy laughs. Yeah. There is nothing cooler, or little kids laughing or something, because like you said, just listening to people laughing triggers that laughter response, right?
Renee: It’s contagious. That’s right. That is so true. Yeah. That’s really funny. Yeah. Love it. Then the next one is something similar to what we have in Write to Riches. It is welcoming the wins. So it’s that really receiving all that you already are, all that you already have achieved, you know. Just really celebrating, you know, that’s sort of like the antidote to that not enough feeling that a lot of people suffer from. They’re not enough. They’re not enough yet. They won’t be enough until they get there, you know. So that’s really like the antidote is like celebrating where you are right now, who you are right now. Welcoming in all the wins.
And then, so this book is full of like energetic tips. So then the next one is consume cannibals. So this is sort of like a how to work with difficult people, difficult energies.
Jo: Okay. Yeah. I need to know this one.
Renee: Yeah. So, basically, it’s reversing the flow. So when someone’s coming at you in an aggressive way, or even like they’re sucking you, instead of putting your barriers up… So when it says consume cannibals, you’re actually going to pull their energy in and that, by reversing that flow. Then they’re not sapping you anymore. And they’re also like your block, because if you have barriers up, that can be kind of painful in your energetic system. And it also is blocking you from things showing up from the universe because now you’ve got walls up. So consuming cannibals is like you’re pulling their energy and pulling energy through the universe through you. And then it gets that flow back going, that interpersonal flow, and it can really change things. So that’s sort of like a lot of tools for working with difficult people, either people who are like projecting stuff at you, sucking you dry, like all of those things.
But I noticed, like I’d written this chapter and then I noticed, you know, recently with the U.S. election, there’s a lot of fire out there, you know. There’s the day after the election, there was like one side celebrating and the other side grieving. And I just realised I could consume cannibals, like I could pull in the celebration. I’m going to just say the “other side”, now you know where I am on the other side, and have it for myself. And have it for my ideals, have it for my country, have it for, you know. So instead of putting up my barrier of trying to fight, you know, getting my sword out, I’m consuming the cannibal. So I’m just like pulling in all their celebration, all their glee, all their vitriol, all their negativity, and I’m using it as fuel for my rocket ship.
Jo: You’ve just put this in the most fascinating way to me because we’re always like, Oh, we want to keep that negative energy at bay, or what we believe is negative energy at bay and that. And so, because I find myself doing that all, all the time This year I’ve had to deal with a couple of difficult people in my day to day, and yeah, and my shields go up. But that resistance that, you know, that I put up is so draining and so tiring. But I thought it was interesting when you’re like consume the cannibal and you bring that energy in. So do you bring it in and then like… do you bring in the essence of the energy? So if it’s like the celebration or that. Or do you let the energy flow through you? Can you just explain that a little bit more what you’re meaning?
Renee: Yes. And that’s a great question because there is, and I think we learned to bubble up because people’s negativity did affect us personally. Right? Cause I also used to be like, I’m putting my bubble up before I go to Walmart. Cause Walmart is full of crazy people. You know. I swear I come out, I’d be like, and like all my body would hurt. Cause I think there’s a lot of arthritic people there. I’d be like, Oh my hips, my God. But what I learned is if you actually, if you drop your barriers and expand your energy out, a million miles in every direction, now you’re part of all that is and you have access to all the energies. And so now there is no negativity because you’re already all that is. So energy, when you receive the energy, it’s not positive or negative. It’s just energy. There’s no good or bad. But you could ask, like you could say, I wish to feel the glee and feel their glee. Or, you know, I remember this moment where I realised all the energies, any, every vibration of energy is swirling around the earth right now. And so I could just decide which one I want to pull in. And so at that moment, I was like, Oh, I want to feel loved. And then I could, I suddenly felt myself wrapped in love. And I was like, Oh, all this work my little human self was doing to try to be lovable. And all I had to do was open up and feel, I want to feel loved. And it shows up. Right? Like so easy.
Jo: And this is something that I really love about your teachings because I’ve been joining you on some of the calls and things like that. And previously when I’ve done meditations or anything like that, I’ve always been told, and I’ve always kind of fell into those teachings, which is, you protect yourself. So you envision the white light around, and you protect yourself. And so you’re almost constricting in, and keeping your energy to yourself. Whereas you do the complete opposite, which is like you were saying, where you expand your energy out, and you do it gently for, like, the room, and then the house, and then your neighbourhood, and all the way through, you know, to the universe, and I really enjoy it, and really love it. But it’s really different than I think a lot of us have been taught to do.
Renee: It is really different. You know, I used to be the bubble up and the white light. And the thing is, I would get headaches because like you said, it gets tight in there. Right? Like you’re compressed with all that light and it may be a high vibration, but it still gives you a headache because it’s like, it’s too much for your body. And so yeah, that’s spreading out. The way I liken it to is like, if you had a glass of water and I put a drop of bleach in it, you’d probably taste it. But if you had an ocean and I put a drop of bleach in it, you’re not going to know. And so that’s like when you expand all the way out, you are the ocean. And so there is no good or bad, like there’s no energy that’s going to poke you the way a drop of bleach in your water would.
Jo: I think it also, it shows that trust too. When we’re willing to let our barriers down and expand out, we’re trusting in a more positive environment, because if you suddenly feel the need that you’ve got to protect yourself and envision a white light or something around you, then you’re saying that there’s something scary out there in the world.
Renee: Yeah, you’re coming from a place of lack. Like, yeah, I have to protect, you know, I might get damaged by something. Yeah, exactly.
Jo: Yeah. So I find this all so very, very fascinating that it’s just great. So is that the last one then? The consume cannibals?
Renee: Oh, no. Okay. Sorry. There’s two more. So, number eight is purge pain. And so that is, you know, when a lot of us have, like I said, traumas from our childhood. From if you believe in past lives, maybe you brought it in from another life, but it’s, you know, it’s wired into our nervous systems to have that pain. And so really doing some kind of practice to, you know, to move it through and out of your body is I think super useful and will speed up your manifesting, if you’re willing to address those wounds you’re carrying around.
And then the last one is similar, is give up guilt. Because that level of shame and guilt does not help you create anything. And that’s usually the cloud you put on yourself. Like I said, like your book didn’t do well and now you feel guilty. Oh, I should have done something different. Or people even get that way about manifesting like they start thinking they’re manifesting wrong. They’re shaming themselves for not being a good manifestor, you know. Like all of that sort of level of guilt that’s just not, it’s not conducive.
Jo: I love this. I love this because even if people are not comfortable with, you know, if it sounds like a little bit too woo-woo or something for them, this is really just principles of mindset anyway, right? Like that releasing that guilt and that shame and those emotions and that, that are holding us back. Letting go of that fear of other people’s emotions or when they’re coming at you or anything like that. So either way, you can put a spin on it. I think it’s really awesome. Love it. Yay.
So your book, when is your book coming out? Can you let the listeners know?
Renee: Yes, it is up for preorder now and it will be out on December 21st. So winter solstice.
Jo: Perfect. Wonderful. So fantastic then to get a hold of to start the new year because I know a lot of people like to do these kind of things to enter a new year, new energy, new you.
Renee: Yes. Yes. And I thought, on one hand, people are really busy during the holidays. On the other hand, it’s a great time to curl up and do this kind of personal work. Like you said, it’s that time of like reflection on the last year, kind of pulling in what you want for the new year.
Jo: Yeah, absolutely. That’s so cool. So what is next for you then? After this book, do you have anything else in the… I mean, of course you’re like a prolific romance author and everything like that, but in regards to the world of manifestation and that, do you have some other projects in the works?
Renee: So, I suspect, I have not planned it yet, but I suspect there will be a Relax to Riches course. Just like there’s a Write to Riches course. And I wrote Relax to Riches… Write to Riches was very much focused on authors and I made Relax to Riches more for anybody. So, I don’t know if I’ll end up attracting, you know, a wider audience with that or if it’ll still stay, you know, people know me as the author person, so maybe it’ll stay in that realm, which is fine too. And then I am doing a little more one on one coaching, so I will probably come up with some kind of offer. I’m getting certified as an existential kink coach, which is a really, yeah, if you haven’t read Carolyn Elliott’s book, Existential Kink, it’s a really beautiful look at manifestation from a shadow integration point of view. So she’s kind of looking like if something shows up in your life that you don’t like, there’s a part of yourself that actually does secretly like it because having it is evidence of wanting it.
Jo: Yeah. And that’s a hard pill to swallow.
Renee: Yes. But yes. And so that’s the, you know, the difficult but so fruitful work is really like looking at why did I attract this? How did I attract this? What part of me secretly loves to be, you know, treated in this way that I really would tell you I really don’t like but I must secretly like on some level?
Jo: Yeah, I find it so fascinating and I think from the guests that I’ve had on the show and that over the last year, there is a real theme, well, there seems to be in my world anyway, a bit of a theme with the shadow self. And delving into those parts of you that maybe you push aside or don’t want to look too close at. There seems to be quite a few authors and that, that are starting to open that up to a general audience and to other authors and that to look into. So I really like that.
Renee: I love it. Yeah. When I was just at RAM, one of the author talks, she brought up that, you know, like, what kind of heroines do you write? And what does that say about you? You know, that sort of, because of course our unconscious, our subconscious is leaking into our book. So are you, you know, are you always writing her as the like, less than. You know, I always do a power dynamic. He’s rich and powerful. She’s not. What does that say about how I feel in the world? You know, what is the… right?
Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Like I’m totally, I’m going through my characters now going, ouch.
Renee: Yeah, and that’s what she said. The author who was speaking was like, yeah, I realised they often had, you know, a wicked stepmother. They often had, you know, of course all of her things, an abuse, an alcoholic mother, you know, like, yeah.
Jo: Yeah, I find it so interesting because I tend to write a lot of characters who are quite insecure, feel like they don’t belong in the world, sometimes have a bit of a chip on their shoulder or, you know. So, I’m like, yeah, I can see all of those things. That’s really telling.
Renee: Yeah. Yeah. Which is in radical approval for all of that. Like all of that is perfect. And what does it tell you that, and is there anything that you don’t like in your, you know, that that reveals that you don’t like in your life that informs, you know.
Jo: And that’s sometimes the case that sometimes I’ve written books and I’m like, I really dislike the main character. Which is like, but I shouldn’t. I should love my main character. My main character should be… you know, so yeah.
Renee: So where are you judging yourself? Which part of you are you not accepting with radical approval? You know.
Jo: There’s so much room to go so deep into… because this really is the subconscious… the stories that we tell ourselves just with our mindset, and the things that we tell ourselves, but also the stories that we write as well. You know. We choose those themes for a reason because maybe those themes are playing out in our life. I’ve talked with, I’m not sure if you know Claire Taylor who works with the Enneagram, and I’ve read her books and chatted with her on the show and things like that, and I find it really interesting that she kind of encourages in a way that the way that we can meet our readers is by imbuing some of the themes that our own Enneagram seem to sway towards into our characters and into our books because it’ll also bring those similar people. And so because I’m familiar with my enneagram, I think about those kind of themes, which is that identity and the belonging and the wanting to feel special, or you know, for the positive or the negative or whatnot. And how my characters all seem to carry a little bit of that but then I’m also, when I’m writing, looking for my stories to appeal to maybe others who are going through or feeling those same emotions or who resonate with those as well. So who we are really does imbue itself in our writing as well.
Renee: Right. Yeah. Yeah. We’re just more clues. Yeah. Total approval of everything you write and you know, all of that. Like it’s just clues if you’re looking to unpack your shadow a little bit, look no further than your own writing.
Jo: Yeah, exactly. Or in the mirror, really. Right? So look at yourself and yeah, there we are. Yeah. I love that. So just as we wrap up here, do you have any final advice or anything for somebody who’s maybe looking at wanting to start on the manifestation journey or wants to start relaxing to riches and, you know, let’s make manifestation a little bit easier for ourselves?
Renee: Yeah. I mean, I think it’s, it could be boiled down really simply to resistance or receiving, and you can feel that in your body. So when you’re in a state of resistance, right, there’s like the tightening, the blocking, and when you’re in a state of receiving, you’re open, the universe can give to you. So if you could keep yourself in a state of receiving and then look at where you’re in resistance, that’s really the key the key to it all.
Jo: Love it. Love it. Well, thank you so much, Renee. Just before we go, how can people, where can they find you? How can they connect with you and where can they order Write to Riches and Relax to Riches?
Renee: Yeah. So https://write2riches.com/ It’s W R I T E number two riches, R I C H E S. com. Thank you for reminding me, I don’t have the Relax to Riches pre order up there yet, but I will. And then I also, if you’re on Facebook, I have Author Abundance Central is my Facebook group, and I would love to have authors join there.
Jo: Wonderful. Well, thank you so much. I’ll make sure that all of those are in the show notes. And like I mentioned before we started recording here, I’m forever mentioning you and the amazing work that you do and with your friend, Lee Savino as well. So yeah, love it. Thank you.
Renee: Awesome. Thank you so much.
Jo: Here are some takeaways from today’s show.
1. The trick to manifesting is to focus on what you do want and not what you don’t, and embody the energy of already having that thing.
2. Everything that’s in your life right now, you have manifested. If you don’t like what you’re manifesting, it’s time to dig into what part of your shadow self may be aligned with that thing.
3. Your dreams show you where your energy is headed.
4. Start to think of sleep time as your sleep spa and set it up that way.
5. The nine tools for relaxing to riches are: Find the Frequency; Unpack Unworthiness; Fear is Freedom; Sleep to Success; Live to Laugh; Welcome the Wins; Consume Cannibals; Purge Pain; Give Up Guilt.
And 6. Trust your body to show you whether you’re in resistance or receiving and try and stay in a state of receiving.
So there are honestly so many takeaways that I personally had from this episode that it would take far too long in an outro to go through. But I had such a ball chatting with Renee again, and being blown away by her take on the way that we manifest and use our energy. For example, the idea of consuming cannibals, the idea of actually opening ourselves up for difficult people’s energy to flow through us and moving away from the concept of protecting ourselves in a white light bubble was really eye opening to me, particularly as this has been an incredibly tough year dealing with particular personalities in my life. So that is something that I will be definitely experimenting with.
So, as I mentioned in the intro, there are a whole lot of resources that I’m including in the show notes today that might be of interest to you after listening to this episode. For example, if you haven’t already, make sure to go back and listen to Episode 55 where Renee first came on the show to talk about her amazing book, Write to Riches. Also, I recommend you check out Episode 77 with her good friend, Lee Savino, who is also a magician with manifestation, and she talks about money magic and mindset on that episode. And of course, there are some books that I recommend if you’re interested in delving into your shadow self and manifestation a little bit further. I’m going to, as I’m making my way through Relax to Riches at the moment, I’m going to recommend that you grab yourself a copy by pre ordering now. So the book will be live on December 21st, but you can most definitely pre order it now. And of course, I’m going to also recommend that you check out the Money Magic membership. Renee didn’t mention it in this episode, but I’m a huge advocate for it, so I had to bring it up. But her and Lee have monthly calls all about manifestation and helping you to clear out any blocks and get your mindset in the right place to manifest that author career that you are desiring. There are also lessons in that membership too on manifestation, if you want to go a little bit more in depth there. It is honestly such an awesome resource and you can grab your first month for free if you use my link and use the coupon code JO, J O, at checkout as well. So it’s worth checking out if you haven’t already.
So, I’m hoping you got as much out of this episode as I did, and you’re excited to delve deeper into how manifestation and mindset can positively influence your author life and author career. If you enjoyed this episode or any episodes of my show, I truly do appreciate if you could leave a review. Or, of course, share this episode or share this podcast with a friend because word of mouth helps me out so much and really is the greatest gift. If you want to support me in other ways, you can buy me a coffee and make a donation through Buy Me A Coffee at https://buymeacoffee.com/jobuer. That helps out with some of the costs that go into putting this podcast out in the world and keeping it running as we head into a new year fairly shortly here.
So, other than that, I am wishing you an amazing start to December, a wonderful writing week ahead, my friend. Until next time, bye.
